Coplay: Drive slowly; school is back in session
With children back at school, motorists are reminded to drive slowly at school bus stops across the borough, especially since there are no crossing guards. Drivers must stop when school buses are picking up or dropping off girls and boys, who many times have to cross the street.

The prep work on North Front Street that had the worn macadam peeled off reveals one of the oldest roads in the borough was concrete, a reminder when the cement industry was the backbone in the borough and throughout the region.
The street, from Chestnut Street south to the former Laky’s store, is being reconstructed. As new curbs, and sidewalks in some stretches, are coming to completion, the street soon will have a fresh coat of macadam.
The work will accelerate this month.
As cement is no longer the product for upgrading streets in the region and beyond, a reminder of decades past, Center Street, Second to Fourth streets, is still concrete. Although a bit worn, it but holds up much better than roads with blacktop, which needs fresh topping every few years.
On Second Street, once concrete, there remains trolley tracks below the street’s surface in some sections.
In the older parts of the borough, which some say is the “olde town,” there are reminders of concrete streets.
