Northampton MSBL team wins title
The Northampton Kids took home the Lehigh Valley Mens Senior Baseball League title last weekend following a clean sweep of Kings 25 in the best of three championship series.
The Northampton team, made up of mostly Northampton alumni, defeated Kings 25 5-4 in Saturday’s championship opener and then finished them off Sunday in an 11-3 drubbing.
Vinnie Eiden, a 1992 graduate of Northampton, put the team together last year and enjoyed having the championship feeling again following the title on Sunday on the Kids home baseball field.
Eiden was apart of district and conference championship teams during his time at Northampton as a teenager and Sunday’s title made him and the team feel a bit younger.
“Most of us on the team were coached by Mike Schneider, so to come back and play together and win a title makes you feel like you’re reliving your youth again,” said Eiden. “To put on the black and orange again and play with all these guys is a great feeling.”
Two awards were given out to players on the team this season, starting with the Black Bat award, which has given to catcher Kyle Ruff.
The Charlie Hustle award was presented to second baseman Nate Barrall.
Eiden also wanted to thank George Yanger of the Gin Mill and Ruff Sports for being the team’s primary sponsors this year, to go along with several local businesses that helped the team throughout the summer.
With only their second season under their belts in the MSBL, Eiden and company and can now look forward to defending their title next year.
“We only play these games once a week during the season,” he said, “so when we get out there to play, it’s like being a kid in a candy store.”
