James J. Rienzo, 101, of Macungie, formally of Toms River, N.J., died Aug. 21, 2016, in DevonHouse. He was the husband of the late Marie (Bernardo) Rienzo. Born in New York, N.Y., he was the son of the late Thomas and Mabel (Mealey) Rienzo.

He worked for the New Jersey State Department of Health, retiring in 1978.

He was a member of the Exchange Club of Western Lehigh and Seaside Heights Italian American Club. He was a member of Knights of Columbus where he was a Grand Knight.

He was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Allentown.

He is survived by sons, Dr. Robert J. and his wife Catherine, of Macungie; Dr. Thomas and his wife, Peggy, of Kalamazoo, Mich.; daughter, Juliet and her husband Donald Parker, of Oakland, Calif.; sister, Mable Wolf, of Crystal River, Fla.; grandchildren, Marie, Sarah, Michael, Bobby, Benjamin, Devon, Colleen, and Kelly; six great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Aug. 25 in St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 1040 Flexer Ave., Allentown. A viewing will be held 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 24 in the Schantz Funeral Home, P.C., 250 Main St., Emmaus and 9 to 10 a.m. Aug. 25 in the church. A reception will be held after the Mass.
