Fatal accident in township

A 31-year-old Allentown woman died as a result of a four-vehicle collision on Route 22 in Hanover Township, Lehigh County, Aug. 19.

Deputy coroner Craig Hanzl pronounced Renee Tenasse of 357 Liberty St., Allentown, dead about 45 minutes after the 11:40 p.m. crash.

Among the injured was a 17-year-old Catasauqua resident.

The driver of a westbound Ford pickup truck, Sheldon Krock, 52, of Easton, and one of the passengers in his vehicle were taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital Cedar Crest for treatment of moderate injuries, Pennsylvania State Police reported.

A total of 11 people were injured in the crash, including three boys, ages 2, 4 and 7, who were in the truck, and a 6-year-old girl in a Mazda 3, driven by Corinne Salter, 32, of Allentown.

The others, with apparent minor injuries, were taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Muhlenberg.

Police say the crash occurred at mile marker 323.5, near the Airport Road interchange, when Krock lost control of his westbound truck and traveled from the right lane into the left lane, impacting a Chevrolet Cruz driven by Traci Fritz, 51, of Tamaqua, in the rear passenger side.

The truck rolled several times and then struck Salter’s vehicle in the left lane.

The impact pushed Salter’s car into a Volvo sedan driven by a 17-year-old Catasauqua girl.

According to a police report, Tenasse was partially ejected from the truck and died at the scene. The coroner’s report confirms she died as a result of blunt force trauma. Hanzl ruled the manner of death to be accidental.

State police closed the highway for several hours.

The investigation into the accident continues, with cooperation from state police, the coroner’s office and the Lehigh County District Attorney’s office.
