Coplay: Borough to hold Aug. 26-28 festival

The 36th Coplay Community Days unfurls Friday for a three-day celebration that features a mix of music and food, capping a summer that will bring in large crowds to the borough’s Parkway.

Although polkas are no longer the main attraction, four bands will dominate the weekend.

The Aardvarks, one of the area’s hottest bands, kick off the entertainment 6-10 p.m. Friday.

On Saturday, Crazy Heart will perform 12:30-3:30 p.m.; Cunningham & Associates, 4-6 p.m.; and Lucky 7, 6:30-9:30 p.m.

Sunday begins with Walt Groller & Orchestra, the longest-running polka orchestra, which still has a strong fan base, taking the stage 12:30-3:30 p.m.; Elvis tribute artist Andy Svreck performs 4-5:15 p.m.; and closing the annual event is The Large Flowerheads from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Food will be available, from the customary hot dogs, hamburgers and pizza to halupkies, halushki, bratwurst and more.

There is free weekend swimming at Parkway Pool, a Dip-N-Dance 1-5 p.m. Saturday and Kidz Zone noon-6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Dogs will even have a chance to swim for a while.

Borough organizations will have stands, many of which have been there from the festival’s beginning.
