Milly Xu, the founder of the Live Wright Society, was born in China and moved to the United States after living through years of torture and hard labor.
Xu moved with two suitcases, $10 and her 3-year-old daughter. Xu worked her way up from being a housekeeper and caregiver to working at a large law firm in Washington, D.C.
When she turned 60, Xu founded the Live Wright Society with her daughter which was initially a mother-daughter effort sharing stories, wisdom and ideas with others.
This society has since turned into a community of inspiration, experiences and cultural activities.
“I’m not an old lady, just a girl with wrinkles,” Xu said of herself.
Xu recently hosted a Coloring for Kids event at her Lower Macungie Township home. Children were encouraged to color an image of giraffes designed by Marion Sheinberg. The original painting was donated to the Lehigh Valley Zoo.
The Coloring for Kids event was the second such coloring event sponsored by the Live Wright Society. The first, held in the spring, welcomed caregivers of those with Alzheimer’s and dementia.
