Church prays for police and community
Revolution Church wants the Borough of Catasauqua to know the church and its congregation members are praying for borough officials, such as Mayor Barbara Schlegel, the police department and the community as a whole.
The church held a prayer walk Saturday, during which Bishop Jim McIver, his wife, Mary, his family and members of the church met in front of the Catasauqua municipal building and walked the downtown area.
Before leading the walk, McIver spoke to the church members.
“This is where we are,” he told them. “We want to impact our city, and we want the city to know we’re here for you, and you can always call on us.”
During the walk, church members prayed during each step taken. After concluding the walk in front of the municipal complex, McIver led a final prayer for the community.
He used the Bible verse 1 Timothy 2:1-3 as a point of reference. The verse reads, “Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior.”
McIver said the church, now located at the corner of Race and Lehigh streets, has held prayer walks in the past in other areas where he has served as pastor and saw great results.
“We pray for our city officials first of all because the Bible says we should do so,” he told The Press. “We also pray for them because they have to make important decisions that affect those who live in the community. We pray for the city officials to enact policies and laws that impact the community in a positive way.”
McIver said while prayer has always been important, with recent disturbing events occurring nationally and internationally, prayer must be bumped up to another level.
“As troubling events unfold, the police and those in the community are at risk every day,” he said. “We pray for the protection of the police and for the protection of those in the community.
“Revolution Church will continue to work in the community and hold prayer walks for the next few months or as the weather permits,” he said.
