John A. Shafer II, 82, of Easley, S.C., died Aug. 10, 2016, at Foothills Retirement Community of Easley, S.C. He was the husband of Mary Anne Sims Shafer. They were married 59 years. Born in Allentown, he was the son of the late Celeste Bleiler Shafer and John H.E. Shafer.
He was very passionate about the Emmaus Fire Co., where he was a volunteer for more than 30 years, starting as a firefighter and retiring as the 1st Asst. Chief. He served on the fireman’s relief as secretary and president for many years.
He was an Emmaus Borough councilman for eight years.
He was a Mason with the Emmaus Masonic Lodge #792 for more than 30 years.
He proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force for eight years and the reserves for many years.
He loved spending time with his three grandsons, helping coach their baseball teams and attending all their games, traveling to many states and Puerto Rico. He loved trains and had an extensive train collection.
He is survived by his wife; son, John A. III, of Allentown; daughter, Julie Anne Godusky, of Bowers; grandsons, Dean Warren Godusky, Darryl John Godusky and Codie John.

Funeral and Masonic services will be held 10:30 a.m. Aug. 18 in the Schantz Funeral Home, P.C., 250 Main St., Emmaus. A viewing will be held 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.
