Coplay: CFC will host community meal

As a partner with Whitehall-Coplay Hunger Initiative, Commitment to Family and Community, 165 Cherry St., will host a free meal 4:30-7 p.m. Aug. 16 in the social hall.

All are welcome. A meal is guaranteed for the first 100 guests.

A somewhat last-minute change for the Coplay Town Watch National Night Out program Aug. 2 had some going to the American Club of Coplay pavilion, as stated in the borough’s newsletter. However, the site was changed to St. John’s Lutheran Church on South Third Street for the event.

Work continues at the community plaza. Construction of a concrete walk from the sidewalk at Second and Chestnut streets to the gazebo should be finished in a short amount of time.

With underground electric wiring, the gazebo can be lighted, with talk already of red and green lights for the Christmas season.

Coplay Feral Cat Committee, whose work is the model for other communities, will meet 2 p.m. Aug. 21 at Samuel Owens Restaurant, Second and Chestnut streets.

The committee reports there is an increasing number of felines in need of spay-neutering services.

Coplay Public Library will hold a ninja party 3:30 p.m. Aug. 11 for the summer reading program, which comes to a close for participants this week.

Additionally, Fun Fest at the library is noon-3 p.m. Aug. 13. Allentown-based, nationally and internationally acclaimed Parkettes will have their gymnasts perform 1 p.m.
