Wheels of Time Rod and Custom Jamboree Aug. 26 to 28 to host Arthur Fonzerelli
The 38th Annual Wheels of Time Rod and Custom Jamboree will be held Aug. 26 to 28 at Macungie Memorial Park. The event helps support local charities and the scholarship program for local automotive technology graduates. Over 1,500 custom cars and street rods from all over the east coast will be on display.
Special features this year include a guest appearance by actor Henry “Fonzie” Winkler all three days; a tribute to veterans with a military display including a helicopter; the Car Teeter Totter and carnival rides and games. Activities include a huge flea market, refreshments, bingo, a basket auction, a cakewalk, Chinese auctions and musical entertainment. There will also be kids’ activities such as crafts and games. Musical groups include “Main Street Cruisers” and “Flamin’ Dick and the Hot Rods.” The show opens 7 a.m. each day and goes until sundown. Musical entertainment continues until 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
The Friday Evening Cruise will begin 6:30 p.m. Aug. 26 from the Allen Organ parking lot and travel south through Macungie, down Buckeye Road to Emmaus, up Lower Macungie Road to Willow Lane and back to Route 100 and the park. The 53nd annual Das Awkscht Fescht, one of the country’s largest antique and classic car shows, will be held Aug. 5 to 7 at Macungie Memorial Park. The featured car this year is the Oakland.
Gates open 6 a.m. for walk-ins and show cars enter after 7:30 a.m. The flea market remains open until dusk and craft vendors are open until 9 p.m. Musical entertainment continues until 10:30 p.m. Aug. 5 and 6 and until 4:30 p.m. Aug. 7. There will also be an indoor and outdoor toy show in Macungie. The outdoor show will be held Aug. 5 and 6 in the parking areas of Shoemaker and Macungie elementary schools and the indoor show will be held Aug. 6 at Eyer Middle School. Parking is available at 4062 Brookside Road. Transportation to and from Macungie Memorial Park will be provided Aug. 6.
The Macungie Farmers Market, located in Macungie Memorial Park, is open 4 to 7 p.m. every Thursday through October. The market will be closed Aug. 25. The next bus trips to Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs are scheduled for Aug. 15 and Sept. 19. Call the park at 610-966-4289 to reserve a seat.
Macungie pool is open noon to 8 p.m. weekdays and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. weekends through Aug. 28. The pool will be open 3 to 8 p.m. Aug. 29 through Sept. 2. There will be a Wheels of Time Cruise Night 3 p.m. until dark Aug. 20 at Macungie Memorial Park. Cars can start arriving 3 p.m. Refreshments will be available.
The Lutheran congregations of Grace, Zion’s and St. Peter’s churches will hold joint Saturday night services 5 p.m. during August at St. Peter’s Church Grove, St. Peter’s Road.
There will be Paint by the Pool with Out of Our Minds Art Studio 10 to 11:30 a.m. Aug. 23 at Macungie pool. No artistic ability is needed. Go to www.faidley.net to register.
