The funds of the sale will be used for more children’s programs.

Battle of the Books will be held 6 p.m. Aug. 4 in the reference area. Some published authors will approach the podium to battle it out with their best stuff before a live audience.

Be prepared to vote on your favorite excerpts and win prizes if you can identify the source of famous lines from literature.

It’s all friendly fun, courtesy of Greater Lehigh Valley Writers Group. Some of the authors are John Evans, Mike Flynn, Phil Giunta and Kathy Kulig.

Dawn Sooy will be the time keeper, and Dianna Sinovic will be the quiz master.

Come in for some laughs and learning!

Join us for Community Heroes Night with Olympic bronze medalist Diane Moyer from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 9.

Moyer and the rest of the U.S. women’s field hockey team won the bronze medal at the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles. She will arrive 6 p.m.

This year’s other scheduled guests include Cetronia Ambulance Corps, personnel from local fire companies and water rescues and local police officers; a MedEvac helicopter also will be on display.

Please note: Personnel and equipment may be called away in the event of an emergency elsewhere.

Whitehall Lions Club and other community organizations are sponsoring a duck race scheduled for Sept. 25 as part of Stroll on the Parkway. The race will start 1 p.m. on the Ironton Rail Trail at Hokendauqua Park.

All proceeds go toward the purchase of a closed-circuit television for Whitehall Township Public Library patrons who are visually impaired.

There is a cost for a ticket, and one ticket buys one duck. Each duck will have a number on it.

Tickets may be purchased at the library.

For cost and other information, call the library at 610-432-4339.
