Writers give kudos to The Press editor, correspondent
To the Editor:
We are so thankful for the writers such as Mary Bittner Henry and Deb Palmieri, whose writings continue to reflect the Christian principles our nation was founded on.
They don’t back down quivering in fear their opinions will offend someone, especially those who think the principles our nation was founded on should be discarded just to keep the .03 percent of the population in our country “happy.”
Remember, it only took one, unhappy, non-Christian to get prayer taken out of our schools.
And now look where our schools are - teachers are assaulted, and there are mass shootings and transgender bathrooms.
Come on, people.
As Mary Bittner said in her Letter to the Editor in the May 27 issue of the Northwestern Press, “It’s about time we, the people, begin to stand up for what is right.”
We, too, “hope our nation can be turned back to being the once-great nation it was.
Perhaps if the American people would do what God said in His Word, we would once again be great.
What did He say in His word?
“If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” (II Chronicles 7:14)
And no, it won’t be the Democrats or Republicans who restore this nation.
Only our prayers, and God alone will be able to accomplish that.
Our freedoms (currently) surpass the freedoms of any other country in this world.
Deb Palmieri is absolutely right as she reminds us that taking away our right to bear arms will not solve the mass murders in our country.
Although there is no law that will be a 100-percent guarantee, we still need to create regulations to try to keep guns out of the hands of people who should not have them, but not keep them out of the hands of law-abiding citizens.
And speaking of guns, we definitely need to support our cops, who put their lives on the line daily for our benefit.
As Deb said, “Without the presence of law enforcement, the balance between order and anarchy would shift toward the latter.”
Yes, it’s true that, just as in any other line of work, there are good workers, and there are bad workers.
We need to always be aware of that. But we need our cops.
They are not the bad guys, especially when they are being threatened by someone accosting them with a gun.
They do a lot of good for us and our communities every single day.
Please let’s give them the respect they deserve.
And don’t forget to pray for them, too!
