George V. Peters
George V. Peters, 90, of Slatington, died July 8, 2016, in his home.
He and his wife Elsie V. (Peters) Peters were married 72 years last Dec. 18.
Born Aug. 14, 1925, in North Whitehall Township, he was the son of the late Ira L. Peters and Goldie S. (Hoffman) Peters Kunkle.
He was the office manager at Braders Woodcraft Inc., Laurys Station for 22 years before retiring in 1987.
Prior to that, he was the office manager of Arthur J. Henry Lumber Co., Neffs, for 21 years serving as secretary of the corporation.
He was past president of the Middle Atlantic Lumbermen’s Association, Lehigh Valley Chapter.
Active in the life of his church and community, he was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, Laurys Station, where he formerly served as president of the consistory, superintendent and Sunday School teacher.
He was currently serving on the board of directors of St. John’s UCC Cemetery.
He formerly served as vice chairman of the North Whitehall Township Planning Commission and the North Whitehall Township Historical Committee.
He was a past master of Chapman Lodge 635, F.&A.M., and past high priest of Siegfried Royal Arch Chapter 295.
He was serving as vice president of the Laurys Station Keenagers and past president of the former Upper Lehigh Valley Baseball League.
An avid outdoorsman, he was a 40-year member of Susquehanna Valley Hunting Club.
In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by a son, Barry G. and his wife, Joanne, of Endicott, N.Y.; daughter Bonnie K. Magliane and her husband, Gregory, of Allentown; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a stepbrother Carl Q. Kunkle.
