With June coming to a close, there are a few calendar events to remember.
Coplay Garden Club meets 7 p.m. this evening, June 30, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 18 S. Third St.
Model Railroad Train Club will meet 7:30 p.m. also this evening, June 30, at the borough hall, 98 S. Fourth St., on the second floor.

The Fourth of July holiday will most likely be quiet in the borough, except for garden-type fireworks that will boom and light up from some backyards.
No sanctioned fireworks will take place in the borough. With a project organized by a borough couple and volunteers, the borough hosted yearly spectaculors; however, the donations from spectators and organizations couldn’t manage to continue the $10,000-plus program.
Some residents have questioned if Coplay Community Days would sponsor fireworks when it caps its weekend festival in late August. Coplay Community Days draws huge crowds; the fireworks for a variety of factors could add to the throngs of people enjoying food and music at the festival, but it will not occur.

With summer here, food drives often don’t take place. Coplay Recreation & Welfare Association will be looking to keep its food pantry shelves full, particularly when it comes to tuna, cereals and various other items.
Residents can drop off food donations at borough hall. Food pantry organizers say, whether it is a couple of items or more, the donation is always appreciated. Monetary donations also are welcomed.
