Helen Billie Schell

Helen Billie Schell, 95, formerly of Whitehall, died June 13, 2016, at Holy Family Manor, Bethlehem. She was the wife of the late Ellwood F. Schell for 74 years.

Born in Maizeville, she was a daughter of the late Harry and Justina (Komanetsky) Billie, emigres from Galicia in the Carpatho-Rusyn area of eastern Europe.

She was a 1938 graduate of Gilberton High School and a 1939 graduate of McCann School of Business, Mahanoy City.

She was a cashier for 15 years with Whitehall-Coplay School District until she retired in 1985. She had been in secretarial work at Dun and Bradstreet and in production control at Vultee Aircraft. She worked at Hess Brothers.

She was a parishioner of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Roman Catholic Church, where she was a parish school volunteer and a member of the Golden Agers.

She was a charter member of Whitehall Women’s Club.

She is survived by two daughters, Theresa and her husband Randy Schmitz of North Wales and Susan and her husband Edward Carrington of Bradenton, Fla.; two sons, Thomas Schell of Midland Park, N.J. and Dennis and his wife Margaret Schell of Northampton; 10 grandchildren, Matthew, Kristen, Stephen and Thomas Schmitz, Royce and Kathryn Carrington, and Kendrick, Eric, Michael and Stephanie Schell; a sister-in-law, Peggy Love of Kansas City, Mo.; nieces; and nephews.

She was predeceased by two sisters, Olga Eisenhard and Anna Billie; and seven brothers, Peter, Michael, Frank, Harry, Andrew, Panko and Wasyl Billie.

There will be a viewing from 9 to 9:45 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial 10 a.m., both June 24 at the church, 618 Fullerton Ave., Whitehall, 18052.
