Donald C. Horning

Donald C. Horning, 82, of Orefield, died Father’s Day, June 19, 2016.

He was the beloved husband of Shirley C. (Grim) Horning for 62 years.

Together, they owned Newton Auto Body for 39 years.

He always had a passion for classic cars and trucks and enjoyed Nascar races .

As a younger man, he raced stock cars at Dorney Park, South Whitehall.

Known as “Gramps” by all who adored him, he had a heart full of love for his family and Jesus.

He was a faithful member and elder of Glory To Glory Family Church, Kutztown, where he ushered in the presence of the Lord by blowing his shofar horn.

He served Holy Communion to honor his Lord’s love for all.

He had a passion for his family and was known for his gentle, quiet spirit and for his famous chocolate chip cookies and potato filling.

He will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by his wife; sons Larry and wife Lily, Daryl and wife Gail; daughters Patti, wife of Glen Seng, Sharon, wife of Denny Kern, and Bonnie, wife of Bill Monks; brother Earl Horning and wife Mert; sister Betty Horning; grandchildren Jeremy, Amy, Carissa, Jarrett, Brittany, Jessica, Rachel, Ryan, Brandon, Zechariah and Abigail; great-grandchildren Skyler, Logan, Riley, Tate, Lucas, Ashton and Carter.

He was predeceased by his parents, the late Henry and Amanda (Yenser) Horning, and by a brother, Robert.

Visitation will be 5-6:30 p.m. June 24 with a Celebration of Life service to follow at Kingdom Life Family Center, 4333 Lime Kiln Road, Orefield.
