Coplay-Fullerton look for push
Like they did in Lehigh Valley Legion, Coplay and Fullerton are combining efforts in the Lehigh Valley Connie Mack League as well.
The team currently sits at 7-7 and is in the middle of the pack, hoping to make a playoff run.
Lately, it’s been a bit of an up-and-down ride for the team. Right before dropping a couple of recent games, the team had won four of five including wins over Freemansburg, South Parkland and Wilson, which was an 18-0 blowout.
So far this year, the key players for the team have been Jake Lisicky, Robert Lamm, Adin Hoderewski and Jake Paashaus. Lisicky played in this past weekend’s Connie Mack All-Star Game against the Bucks-Mont league. LV lost the game 11-4.
“[Lisicky] is leading the team in RBIs (22) and batting average (.500),” said head coach Zachary Winter. “He’s played well behind the plate as catcher as well as third base.”
Winter said Lamm has scored 13 runs so far this season along with eight stolen bases and an excellent center field while also seeing time at pitcher.
Hoderewski leads the team in runs scored (17) as of last week as well as stolen bases (10). He is also batting .400 and has struck out only twice this season, Winter said.
On the mound, Paashaus has been the team’s most consistent pitcher. Winter said Paashaus has pitched a total of 21 innings through last week and only allowed four earned runs and five walks.
Other players to watch include Ryan Pavone, who has been a great outfielder and leadoff hitter. Paul Helman has played well on the mound and threw a no-hitter against Wilson.
Ben Antonchak and John Kaintz are returning players who have been solid defensively and have helped the team at the plate. Andrew Snyder has been playing well at shortstop, making only one error this year, according to Winter.
Kyle Kralick, Ryan Schmidt, and Kyle Saylor have all played well in the outfield. Brandon Gawrys has caught a few games and played first base and has been hitting the ball hard this year. Joe Lisicky and Lee Brannon will continue to split time at third base, Winter said.
