Anthony Groller

Anthony Groller, 89, of Emmaus, died June 8, 2016, in St. Luke’s Hospice House. He was the husband of the late Betty P. (Sassaman) Groller. Born in Fogelsville, he was the son of the late Frank and Anna M. (Beil) Groller.

He worked for the former Willard Battery and later Exide Battery for many years, retiring in 1986.

He honorably served his country in the Navy Seabees during World War II.

He was active in many community service organizations, served as president of Emmaus Youth Association, coached baseball and softball for 26 years, served on the Emmaus Planning Commission May 1972 to present, served on the Emmaus Park and Recreation Committee for 51 years and was instrumental in erecting the American flagpole at Emmaus Community Park, where a pavilion was dedicated in his name, the Groller Pavilion.

He is survived by daughters, Betty J. Wessner, of Reading, Sharon N. and her husband James C. Oswalt, of Emmaus, Karen J. and her husband Ted Curley, of Emmaus and Tracie A. and her husband Darren Golembeski, of Zionsville; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Dennis A. and a grandson, Joshua W.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. June 25 in St. John’s Lutheran Church, 501 Chestnut St., Emmaus. Visitation will be held 9:30 to 11 a.m. June 25 in the church. Arrangements were made by the Schantz Funeral Home, P.C., Emmaus.
