Three make Cup team

Whitehall High School softball players, Ashlee Brosky, Kay Solderitch, and Mackenzie Guzy were recently chosen for the 2016 Lehigh Valley Carpenter Cup softball team.

The team is comprised of Lehigh Valley area sophomores and juniors. Blake Morgan is head coach, replacing longtime Carpenter Cup softball coach, John Eyer, who will assist at some practices.

The team will play in the Carpenter Cup Softball Classic next week. The tournament is sponsored by the Philadelphia Phillies.

Guzy and Solderitch are returning players, and Brosky is a newcomer.

“I heard people were doing this throughout the years, and they said it was fun, and I’m so glad I [tried out],” said Brosky. “It was kind of a laid back tryout.”

Also on the Lehigh Valley roster are Emmaus players, Brooke Iobst, Madi Clark, and Cassie Burke, Northampton players, Jillian Muthard and Hallie Muffley, Parkland players, Aubree Fritzinger, Chelsea Morgan, and Shauna Frank, Liberty player, Kristin Kaleycik, Bethlehem Catholic player, Jess Indelicato, Salisbury player, Lilia Crouthamel, and Stroudsburg player, Winnai Hoyt.

The Carpenter Cup Classic is also a showcase for college coaches.

“It’s important to me because I want to go to college and play softball,” Brosky said.

Brosky is a pitcher and third baseman. Solderitch is a pitcher and outfielder, and Guzy is a catcher and third baseman.

“We tried to pick players who play multiple positions, so if you have three or four players who play catcher and first base, or pitcher and outfield, I tell the girls, the more you can do, the more value you bring to the team,” said Coach Morgan. “This roster, in particular, has girls who play a lot of positions.”

Lehigh Valley’s first game is scheduled for 11 a.m. on June 20 at FDR Field in Philadelphia.

“I hope we can have a good tournament,” said Brosky. “We have a good team.”
