Miller, Romig selected to McDonald’s Game
This year’s McDonald’s Lehigh Valley All-Star football game is set for Thursday.
Two Emmaus offensive linemen were selected to the team in Jared Romig and Eric Miller.
“Ever since I was younger I wanted to play in this game,” said Romig. “When I got first-team all-conference I knew I was going to have the opportunity to play in this game and I was very happy I was selected.”
Both players were part of one of the area’s best offensive lines the past two years. They blocked for Andy Davidson in 2014 and for Kyle Boney last season. Both were among the top running backs in the state in yardage.
Both Hornets enjoy their sometimes thankless role in the trenches and appreciate that they got noticed and invited to play in the all-star game.
“The way your running back performs is basically a reflection of the line,” said Miller. “You have to be a pretty good line to have two 1,000-yard rushers in the last two seasons. You might get personally recognized, but the line as a whole gets pretty good recognition.”
Miller was a three-year varsity player at Emmaus. He started at nose guard his sophomore season and played offensive guard and defensive tackle in his last two years. He’s going on to play definensive line at Kutztown University.
Romig, who will continue his football career at Lackawanna College, was also a three-year varsity player at Emmaus. He got some quality playing time as a sophomore and then started at offensive tackle the past two seasons.
While both players are excited to get on the field and play one final high school game, they are even more eager to help the McDonald’s charities that the game supports.
“It means everything,” said Romig. “I take a lot of pride in it. I love that I have the ability to play football and for that to benefit such a great cause is just really an honor. I’m looking forward to it.”
The game is slated to kick off at 7 p.m. at Nazareth’s Andrew Leh Stadium.
The Red team is made up of senior all-star players from Lehigh, Monroe and Carbon counties. They will take on the Gold team, which includes players from Northampton County and Phillipsburg High School in New Jersey.
The following are rosters for both teams.
