As I dropped my son off for his last day of high school today, I can’t help but feel a little nostalgic and emotional (yes, I am tearing up as I write this).

The baccalaureate service June 2 at First Presbyterian Church of Allentown was so beautiful. There were seniors singing, reading scripture and at the end, they all stood, introduced themselves and announced their plans for the future.

Thank you to everyone who spoke: Miss Quigg, Mr. Barna, Debbie Galbraith and the Rev. Lori Esslinger. I was both laughing and crying at every speech. Great job, everyone. I can’t wait for graduation!

Now let’s celebrate the last day of school for everyone else. June 14 is a 12:15 p.m. dismissal for both the high school and middle school. Both elementary schools will dismiss at 1 p.m. On June 15 the high school and middle school set the children free for the summer 10:30 a.m. while the elementary students can escape 11:15 a.m. Have a great summer!

If you just can’t stand the thought of not seeing the inside of a school building until the end of August, there will be summer library hours six times this summer.

All sessions will run 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and be held at the high school due to construction projects at the other school buildings. The first session is scheduled June 22 and will be hosted by Barb Jaindl. There will be books for all ages and grade levels on every occasion.

A school board meeting is scheduled 7:30 p.m. June 15 at the administration building.

Jerusalem Western Salisbury Church will host a community breakfast 8 to 11 a.m. June 11. With a special Father’s Day theme, the menu will include cheesesteak omelets, breakfast sandwiches (egg, cheese and choice of meat on an English muffin) and cinnamon streusel coffee cake. A donation is suggested. All proceeds benefit the 275th anniversary celebration at the church.

The Devonshire drop-off center is open June 18 and 21. The hours of operation are 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the first and third Tuesday and Saturday of the month.
