Motorcyclist dies following South Whitehall Twp crash

Jesus Fred, 42, of Allentown, died May 27 when the Honda motorcycle he was operating was struck by a Dodge Caravan driven by Jaynelle Troxell, 22, of Lancaster at 6:30 p.m. at the intersection of Hamilton Boulevard and Lincoln Avenue, South Whitehall Township.

Fred, of 139 N. 10th St., Allentown was pronounced dead 7:27 p.m. that day at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, Lehigh County Coroner Scott Grim said.

Grim said the cause of Fred’s death was attributed to multiple blunt force injuries to his torso and head.

His manner of death was ruled an accident, Grim said.

According to South Whitehall Township police, preliminary investigation revealed Troxell made a left turn in front of Fred’s motorcycle.

Police say the intersection of Hamilton Boulevard and Lincoln Avenue is controlled by a traffic light, and drivers are prohibited from making turns from the lane Troxell made her turn.

Fred and his passenger, Sarai Rivera Melendez, 35, of Allentown, who were not wearing helmets.

Both were transported by Cetronia Ambulance Corps to Lehigh Valley Hospital.

According to police, Melendez is still in the hospital.

Troxell who sustained minor injuries was also transported by Cetronia Ambulance Corps to Lehigh Valley Hospital, police say.

Police say Troxell was alone in the minivan at the time of the crash.

South Whitehall Township police remained on the scene until midnight reconstructing the crash.

Volunteer firefighters from Cetronia Fire Company, along with fire police from neighboring jurisdictions assisted at the scene.

This incident remains under investigation by South Whitehall Township police and the Lehigh County District Attorney’s Office.
