At 5:53 p.m. that same day, another Pheasant Drive resident reported his home was burglarized while he and his wife were inside. Antique currency and a prayer book were taken.
The next day, May 10, four burglaries were reported.
A resident of South Seventh Street in Coplay reported someone was breaking into his house. When borough police arrived, they saw a window had been broken and the back door ajar.
That afternoon, a resident on Highland Street in Allentown reported he was mowing grass when someone broke into his home. A blank checkbook, $350 in cash and a credit card were stolen.
That evening, a resident on Center Street in Coplay told police his home had been burglarized. The resident said someone took a $100 gold bracelet and a laptop computer.
Later that evening, Whitehall police were dispatched to North Fourth Street for a report of a burglary in progress. The perpetrator had fled the scene before police arrived. The following morning, May 11, a woman reported her vehicle had been stolen in Allentown. The vehicle had been left running with the keys in it while it was parked at a convenience store in the 700 block of North Seventh Street in Allentown.
Shortly after, Coplay police located the vehicle, which had been involved in a hit-and-run accident in Whitehall Township, in the 800 block of Center Street in the borough. Detectives with the auto theft task force responded to the scene. Those detectives heard a radio report that a Coplay police officer was talking to a man in an alley off the 500 block of Center Street.
The officer, who was in a patrol vehicle, noticed the man, later identified as Miller, was carrying two bags and was limping.
The officer pulled alongside the man and questioned him. The man had a swollen ankle and multiple bruises on his body. The man said he did not have identification. He said his name was Matthew Miller, and he gave the officer two different dates of birth.
The man became nervous and attempted to run past the officer. The officer took him into custody and later identified him as Andrew Patrick Miller.
The bags he was carrying contained a gun with two loaded magazines and a gaming system.
The gun and the gaming system had been stolen in a residential burglary earlier that day on South Third Street in Coplay. Shortly after that burglary, a resident on Tilghman Street in Allentown had reported a burglary in which an Avon bag, jewelry and Avon products had been stolen.
