Director of public works retires

Bob Ibach, South Whitehall director of public works, has retired after a 35-year career with the township.

Board President Christina “Tori” Morgan commented on Ibach’s tenure at a recent commissioners’ meeting.

“Bob was here to witness the rapid growth of the township and the department through the 1980s and early 2000s and has always strived to provide the best service to the residents of South Whitehall,” Morgan said.

A graduate of Parkland High School and Lehigh Carbon Community College, Ibach worked his way through numerous positions in the streets department, then transferred to parks, buildings, and vehicles in 1992 where he was promoted supervisor in 2002.

In 2008, he became supervisor of the streets department and was promoted to public works manager in 2012.

He earned many professional certifications including water operator and pesticide applicator.

Commissioner David Bond commented on Ibach’s influence among participants at the township playing fields.

“It was uncanny how everyone knew you by name - the mothers and fathers in the leagues,” Bond said. “You are a fine representative of this township.

“You’ve impacted a lot of young lives in the things you do for the leagues.”

Morgan offered remarks on Ibach’s departure.

“Bob has proven to be a great leader and true asset to our organization,” Morgan said. “He will be greatly missed.”

Ibach expressed his thoughts on his years at South Whitehall.

“It’s with mixed emotions that I leave,” Ibach said. “It’s been a huge part of my life.”

Ibach has accepted a position as director of sewer operations and special projects in Upper Macungie Township.

South Whitehall Manager Howard Kutzler is serving as acting public works administrator until a successor for Ibach is approved.
