Charles W. Trinkle
Charles W. Trinkle, 71, of Allentown, died peacefully May 8, 2016, in Lehigh Valley Hospital with his loving family by his side.
He and his wife, Bernadette M. (Kametler), were married 22 years.
Born in Allentown, he was the son of the late Walter J. and Helen M. (Reichard) Trinkle, former owners of the well-known Trinkle’s of Cetronia restaurant.
He was a 1963 graduate of Parkland High School where he was on the football and track & field teams.
From 1964-65, he attended Augusta Military School and, from 1965-67, he served as a private first class in the U.S. Army.
In 1980, he took ownership of Trinkle’s, a business in the family since 1925.
A third-generation owner, he ran the business until 2001 along with his wife.
Trinkle’s was known not only for its superior seafood, but also its friendly atmosphere, where he could always be found behind the bar.
He began bartending in the early ‘70s and over the years bartended at the Young Men‘s Club in Allentown, Woodlawn Fire Company, and most recently at 3501 Grille (formerly Trinkle‘s).
He enjoyed spending time with his family and watching his daughters play softball.
He was an outstanding athlete who over the years enjoyed golf, flag football, bowling and softball.
He will be dearly missed by his family and the many friends and acquaintances he made over the years.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters, Jessica, wife of Wayne Shupp of Bethlehem, and Shannon and Nikki, at home; grandchildren Logan, Dylan and Payson; three nieces and three nephews.
He was predeceased by sisters, Barbara Ann (Trinkle) Handwerk and Jane L. (Trinkle) Bauer.
