Harry M. Glasser Jr.
Harry M. Glasser Jr., 92, of West Catasauqua, died May 7, 2016, at Lehigh Valley Hospice, Allentown. He was the husband of Alberta I. (Solomon) Glasser for 65 years.
Born in Sigmund, he was a son of the late Harry D. and Sarah E. (Long) Glasser.
He was part of Battery C, 557th Anti-Aircraft Battalion, U.S. Army, in Europe during the Battle of the Bulge in World War II. He was awarded four bronze stars.
He was a heater at the former Phoenix Forge of Catasauqua for 40 years until he retired in 1989.
He was a volunteer at the Jefferson Street playground.
The Harry Glasser Field was named for him in 1993.
In 1994, he was inducted into the American Legion Baseball Hall of Fame.
Fullerton Athletic Association honored him in their second salute to the troops.
He coached for 20 years for Connie Mack, Blue Mountain and legion baseball.
He was a lifetime member of Fullerton Fire Company No. 1, Fullerton American Legion Post 367 and Donald S. Reinert Post 7293 VFW in Egypt.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, David and his wife Judy of Arizona; two daughters, Mary O’Donnell of Northampton and Doreen and her husband Bill Huber of Whitehall; eight grandchildren, Jim, Marcus, Katrina, Eric, David V., Aaron, Jason and Katelyn; and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by 10 brothers and sisters.
A visitation hour will be 10-11 a.m., with a service 11 a.m., May 12 at Gilbert Funeral Home, 444 Pershing Blvd., Whitehall.
