I have some exciting news! The Salisbury High School marching band has been invited to perform at the Outback Bowl in Tampa, Fla. Jan. 2, 2017. Would you like to support the Salisbury Music Association and help send our band to the Outback Bowl? Do you like to play bingo?

The SMA will sponsor a purse/basket bingo May 22 at Salisbury Middle School. Doors open noon and bingo starts 1 p.m. Tickets for 20 games can be purchased at the door. There will be a Chinese auction, door prizes and refreshments available. These trips can be very costly so let’s help these students participate in this once in a lifetime opportunity. The last of the spring concerts are all in one week. The SHS band and chorus will hold its concert 7 p.m. May 10.

Western Salisbury Elementary School chorus and grade 3 will hold its concert 2 p.m. May 11.

Last, but not least, the Salisbury Middle School chorus, concert band and jazz band will perform 7 p.m. May 12.

These concerts are amazing. I have been going to them for years and thoroughly enjoy them. If you have a free night, support the music program, encourage the students and attend at least one of these performances.

Instead of each building having their own art show, this year there will be one large, district-wide show held at the high school 6 to 8:30 p.m. May 11. Come out and enjoy the creations from students in kindergarten through 12th grade all in one place.

It is time for the WSE kindergarteners to have lunch with parents, guardians and family members. On May 10, parents and guardians of kindergarten students are invited into the building 11:15 a.m. to either eat a school lunch or bring in something from the favorite restaurant of their student.

There will be an operations committee meeting 7 p.m. May 2 at the administration building.

The Center for Humanistic Change will present a “HOPE: Heroin and Opioid Prevention Program” 6:30 to 8 p.m. May 4 at Salisbury High School. Parents, guardians and community members are invited to attend to receive information on heroin and opioids, symptoms of use, the effects on health and relationships and where to go for help. This program is free to the public and no registration is required.

The Devonshire drop-off center is open April 30, May 3 and 7. The hours of operation are 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the first and third Tuesday and Saturday of the month.

Jerusalem Western Salisbury Church will hold its community breakfast 8 to 11 a.m. May 14. A donation is suggested. All proceeds benefit the 275th anniversary celebration.

The church has been planning this celebration for quite some time and it is finally here. The big celebration will be held 10:30 a.m. May 1. The worship service will feature several guest speakers including former pastors. If you have ever attended the Jerusalem Western Salisbury Church, come out and visit and worship with some old friends.
