Ruth Edna Weaver, 84, of Slatedale, died on April 20, 2016, in Fellowship Community, Whitehall.

Born Nov. 24, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Clarence H. and Ida J. (Hunsicker) Snyder.

She was married for 61 years to the love of her life and best friend, Willard O. Weaver, with whom she lived life to the fullest.

Always ready to lend a helping hand to family and friends, she truly lived her faith in both words and deeds.

Following graduation from Slatington High School in 1949, she was employed as the executive secretary for the vice president of finance at Mack Trucks until the birth of her daughter, Linda Sue.

Later, she resumed her career with Kern’s Furniture Store, Slatedale, and Citizens National Bank, Slatington.

In 1977, she became postmaster for the village of Slatedale, a position she held until her retirement in 1992.

Although retired from government service, she continued to serve her community and Slatedale Holy Trinity Lutheran Church by serving many years as the blood bank coordinator and treasurer of the Lutheran Church Women’s organization.

She was a lifetime member of the Slatedale Fire Company, devoting countless hours in support of that critical community service.

She and her husband enjoyed both domestic and international travel, playing cards with friends and spending time with their extended family.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her loving daughter, Linda Sue, wife of David Wuerstle of Schnecksville; grandson Matthew (Kate) Wuerstle; great-grandson Bastian Wuerstle, and great-granddaughter, Brynn Wuerstle, all of Allentown.

She will be greatly missed by seven nieces, a nephew and many friends and acquaintances to whom she was known affectionately as “Aunt Ruth.”

She was predeceased by her brother, Kermit John Snyder.
