The Concrete Barbell Club in Cementon hosted a powerlifting meet on April 23rd to benefit the Forgotten Felines and Fidos of Germansville.
Thirty athletes, 20 male and 10 female and some from as far away as Pittsburgh, performed the squat lift, bench press, and deadlift to achieve a three-lift total in their respective weight class.
The Best Male Lifter award went to Kyle Barna of Palmerton and Best Female was Lorie Barth from Blandon.
Barna squatted 640, bench pressed 350 and deadlifted 640 for a 1,630-pound total. He weighed 272 pounds. Lorie Barth weighed in at 164 and her squat was 330, bench press 175 and deadlifted 355 for an 860-pound total.
Also, two Northampton High wrestlers competed. Dan Moran, 132-pound class, totaled 625 pounds and Zach Rooks, 165-pound class, totaled 1,065 ponds.
Club owner Nelson Snyder plans to make this event, called the “Cement Belt Showdown,” an annual competition to aid the nonprofit, no-kill animal shelter.
