The Eastern Pennsylvania Conference Tennis Tournament began last week and a several Emmaus players on in position to play for titles.
The tournament began with three rounds Thursday at Pocono Mountain East High School. Saturday’s semifinals and title matches were postponed due to morning rain and will be played Monday, May 2.
Two singles player and two doubles teams from Emmaus will compete in semifinals.
The Hornets’ Matt Fitzmaurice earned the No. 2 seed at No. 1 singles. He won his first two matches by scored of 8-2 and 8-0 to reach the semifinals, where he will meet No. 3 seed Ben Tauber of Nazareth.
At No. 3 singles, the Hornets’ Cameron Widdoss earned the No. 3 seed and won his first two matches 8-1 and 8-3. He will face No. 2 seed Nate Tauber (Nazareth) in Monday’s semifinal match.
The Emmaus No. 3 doubles team of Darsh Patel and Austin Long won a quarterfinal match 8-7 (7-5) after winning their first match 8-2. They are the No. 3 seed and will face No. 2 Garrett Snyder and Nick Ferraro of Nazareth in the semifinals.
The Hornets’ No. 4 doubles team of Dan Traynor and Steve Naab came in as the No. 3 seed and won their opening matches by scores of 8-6 and 8-1. They will take on No. 2 seed Brian Smith and Nick Mitchell in the semifinals.
Emmaus’ No. 2 singles player Sanket Narayana was seeded eighth. He won his opening match 8-2 but lost to top-seeded Nate Lyman of Parkland in the quarterfinals.
At No. 2 doubles, the Hornets’ Zooey He and Marko Maricic were the No. 5 seed and won their opening match 8-5 but lost to No. 4 seed Jon Fiortentino and Jon Chu 8-5 in the quarterfinals.
