LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

WHS softball team knocks off three teams

It was another productive week for the Whitehall softball team.

They reeled off three consecutive wins, defeating Northampton, Pocono Mountain East and East Stroudsburg North.

After that current winning streak, the Zephyrs sit at 8-1, their lone blemish the loss to Nazareth. That puts them in second place behind Parkland in the Skyline Division of the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference. Those two teams are set to meet April 26.

They’ve scored 23 runs in their last three games, while only allowing six. Their latest win came in a rule-shortened game against ESN on April 18. They won that game 10-0 against the Timberwolves.

Ashlee Brosky got the win for the Zephs. She allowed just two hits en route to the win, striking out eight batters along the way.

The Zephs banged out 10 hits in the league win. They plated four runs in the fourth and then tacked on six in the bottom of the third. Logan Bortz was 2-2 with 4 RBIs to lead the Zephs.

The preceding game against PME saw another offensive outburst as they scored six runs to defeat their Mountain Division rivals, 6-2. In that game against the Cardinals, they got nine hits, with Brosky going 2-3 with three RBIs.

Whitehall bunched all their runs in the middle innings, scoring three runs in the third and three more in the fourth. Along with Brosky’s big day at the plate, Cara Bonshak stroked a double, as did Rachel Spanitz.

Kay Solderitch got the win and didn’t allow a hit in her five innings of work. She also fanned eight Cardinals and issued just one walk.

The southpaw continues her impressive streak in the circle. Her six wins currently place her among the top 12 pitchers in the state.

In the game against Northampton, Julia Solderitch whipped out the big stick, going 4-4 including a home run. She also had four RBIs to help pace the Zephs to a 7-4 win over the Konkrete Kids. Bonshak also had a good day at the plate, getting two hits and an RBI.

Kay Solderitch got the win, giving up seven hits in her seven innings of work.

The Zephs are set to play Stroudsburg on Thursday. The Mounties are currently 3-5, having lost three games in a row, with two of those coming against Skyline Division opponents. After that game, the Zephyrs turn right around and play Emmaus this Friday evening at Pates Park. The Green Hornets are currently 4-6, placing them last in the division.
