Board OKs license transfer

South Whitehall commissioners have granted approval for transfer of a liquor license from Rosie’s West End Inc., 1328 W. Tilghman St., Allentown, to JT’s Grill, a restaurant proposed for the southwest corner of the Ridgeview and Hausman roads intersection.

Gregory Szallar, attorney for JT’s Grill, reported on April 6 the new facility will be a casual contemporary, full-service restaurant.

He said the 9,000-square-foot building will provide seating for 367 patrons in three indoor distinct dining areas and one section outside.

The restaurant will accommodate people with disabilities and will have television screens located throughout the seating areas.

Szallar reports 15 percent to 25 percent of total sales will be alcohol but there will be no take-out beer sales.

He anticipates 24 full-time and 56 part-time employees will be needed to staff JT’s Grill.

“They are investing $3 million in this,” Szallar said.

Commissioners’ approval was for the liquor license transfer only.

The owner of the proposed restaurant will need to address township zoning and subdivision and land development regulations prior to construction.

In other business, commissioners noted the Greenawalds Fire Co. will be holding a 50th anniversary memorial service 9 a.m. on Sept. 11.

Township representatives will participate in the event planned to coincide with the timing of the World Trade Center terrorist attacks in 2001.

Randy Cope, manager of Parks and Recreation, displayed a sample entry sign for Covered Bridge Park.

The signs will be purchased from iZone Imaging, from Texas, explained Cope.

He anticipates installing the signs this summer. The units will be positioned in L-shaped masonry bases.

Commissioners approved Cope’s request to give a 50-percent discount on the summer program registration fee to children who are on Parkland School District’s free or reduced lunch list.

The board granted a waiver from subdivision and land development requirements to GEO Specialty Chemicals, 2400 N. Cedar Crest Blvd., for construction of a 2,400-square-foot modular testing laboratory on the 95-acre property.

In addition to the new building, the project includes a ramp, steps, parking spaces for people with disabilities, a small gas cylinder storage area and utility connections.

The new modern laboratory will be used for quality assurance testing, currently done in an existing building on the site.

GEO has 53 employees, with four working in the lab. The company includes 76,000 square feet of buildings on the site which was once home to the Trojan Powder Company.
