April 16 is a busy day at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 18 S. Third St. Volunteers will spruce up the outside of the church, during what is called Church Beautification Day, beginning 9 a.m.
Later that day, 4-6 p.m., a lasagna dinner is open to the public. Donations will be gratefully accepted for the kitchen fund.

Commitment to Family & Community (CFC), 165 Cherry St., will hold a breakfast 8 a.m.-noon April 17.

The Coplay Legion Baseball committee meets 2 p.m. April 17 at Coplay Legion Post 426, 134 S. Second St.
The agenda will focus on Sammy Balliet Stadium improvements, which are underway.

Coplay Lions Club will meet 7:15 p.m. April 18 at Coplay Saengerbund, 205 S. Fifth St.

The David Victor building at Second and Chestnut streets, which earlier housed an art studio and school and decades ago a cigar manufacturing factory, is now home to a guitar and bass lesson facility.
Speaking of music, Butch’s Log Cabin, 31 N. Second St., has karaoke Friday nights; Coplay Saengerbund has polkas on Sundays; and soon, rock and roll bands will begin playing Friday evenings at Saengerbund’s outside pavilion.
Youngsters won’t be left out. Several poolside deejay events are slated at Parkway Pool in the summer.

The heavy presence of law enforcement personnel at the borough hall, which catches some people by surprise, is not to be alarming. Police training is taking place on a regional basis.
All of the building’s nooks and crannies and the outdoors make the facility an ideal location for such training.
