LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Track gets a lift from tennis team

The Whitehall track and field team had to do a little adjusting on the fly when they traveled to East Stroudsburg South for a tri-meet last week.

Now, it’s not uncommon for athletes to make adjustments on the spur of the moment, but in this case they needed the aid of boys tennis team to get them where they needed to go.

That’s because their bus broke down en route to East Stroudsburg South High School for the match against the Cavaliers and the Dieruff Huskies. Head coach James Sebesta said that the tennis team was traveling to East Stroudsburg North High, so they were able to hitch a ride with them, a fortunate turn of events that didn’t impact the meet too severely.

The boys wound up splitting the tri-meet, losing to ESS, while toppling Dieruff. The girls swept their opponents, defeating both schools to remain unbeaten.

Sebesta said that he knew it would be a tough day on the track for the boys against ESS, and that proved to be a turning point in the meet. Still, they managed to hold their own through the field events, maintaining that edge that’s been a valuable point producer this season. The boys now sit at 2-1 on the season.

The girls simply powered through both opponents, raising their record to 3-0.

In the 100 meters, Amanda Crooks finished first, crossing the line in 12.34. The swift-footed sophomore also claimed first in the 200, finishing in 25.34.
