Northampton: Car seat, CarFit checks set for April 16

Register now for a car seat check and a CarFit check, both planned for 10 a.m.-2 p.m. April 16 at Northampton Regional EMS, 1525 Canal St.

This community event is sponsored by Northampton Regional EMS, Lehigh Township Police, Northampton Borough Police and Bethlehem Health Bureau.

The car seat check will determine if your child’s car seat is both a good fit for your car and properly installed.

CarFit, a national program developed by AAA, AARP and the American Occupational Therapy Association, is designed to give a quick, comprehensive check on how well an older driver and his or her vehicle work together.

This event will be held rain or shine. Appointments are recommended. Call 610-262-9110, ext. 3.

An all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner will be held 4-8 p.m. April 9 at Northampton Fire Department, 4 Lerchenmiller Drive, along with a bake sale and basket raffle.

The basket raffle also will be held 5-8 p.m. April 8.

St. John’s Friendly Fifties will meet 1 p.m. April 11 in the social hall of St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Church, 1343 Newport Ave.

Joe Weber will entertain.

Northampton AARP Chapter 3915 will meet April 13 at Northampton Banquet & Event Center, 1601 Laubach Ave. Doors open noon.

Entertainment and refreshments will be provided.

Registration for Children’s Book Week and Screen Free Week will begin April 11 at Northampton Area Public Library, 1615 Laubach Ave.

The One Book, Every Young Child program will be held 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. April 12 and 10 a.m. April 13. Highlights of the event include a story time, crafts and the book “Kite Day” to take home. Space is limited; please register for your choice of day and time at the library.

The next adult coloring session will be 6 p.m. April 13.

The library will host “Who turned down the lights?,” a presentation by Center for Vision Loss, 6:30 p.m. April 19. Register for this event, which will cover normal vision changes with age.

A teen poetry contest is planned for the month of April. Submissions will be accepted the entire month, and a winner will be chosen the first week of May. A teen poetry slam will be held 7 p.m. April 25.

Grace United Church of Christ, 902 Lincoln Ave., will be hosting an all-you-can-eat pork and sauerkraut dinner 4-7 p.m. April 16. The dinner will be served in the fellowship hall.

The menu features pork and sauerkraut, mashed potatoes, green beans, apple sauce, a roll, drinks and a dessert.

Hot dogs will be available for children. Take-out meals are available.

There also will be a mini basket social and bake sale 4-7 p.m. The drawing will be 7 p.m. for the baskets.

St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, 19th Street and Lincoln Avenue, will host a Spring Bouquet concert 3 p.m. April 17.

Performing instrumental music ranging from Pachelbel to Broadway and beyond will be Debbie Glick, flutist; the Rev. Todd Fennell, bass-baritone and trombonist; and Sandra Deiter, accompanist and organ soloist.

A free-will offering will be taken to benefit future musical programs at the church. A social will follow the concert.
