Ernest C. Lichtenwalner

Ernest C. Lichtenwalner, 93, formerly from Cetronia, died peacefully, March 30, 2016, in Emeritus, Brookdale Senior Living.

He and his wife Ruth C. (Hohe) Lichtenwalner were married 72 years last Dec. 15.

Born Feb. 17, 1923, in Cetronia, he was the son of the late Morris and Ida (Hartman) Lichtenwalner.

A 1941 graduate of the former South Whitehall High School, he faithfully and honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was a bookkeeper and sales representative at the Joseph I. Haines Appliance Store for more than 40 years before retiring.

Active in the life of his community and church, he was a member of the Lutheran congregation of Cedar Union Church, Cetronia, where he served as council member, and longterm treasurer of the Lutheran congregation, joint board and cemetery association.

He served as superintendent of the church Sunday School.

His community involvement include volunteer firefighter and charter member of the Cetronia Fire Company, and lifetime member of the Parkland Trojan Varsity Alumni Club.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by children, Nancy L., wife of L. Thomas Kern, Diana R., wife of David Haines, and Glenn E. Lichtenwalner and wife, Audrey, all of Schnecksville; sister Anna Marie Ritter of Allentown; grandchildren Todd and Jason Kern, Phillip Lichtenwalner and wife, Becky, Megan Lichtenwalner, Natasha Haines; great-grandsons Nicholas and Jacob Kern.

He was predeceased by brothers Leonard and Arland.
