To celebrate National Library Week April 11-16, we will be starting our spring programs. The theme this year is Libraries Transform. Libraries are more than books; we are resources for students of all ages. We have 17 public computers for folks to do job searches, write resumes, type school reports and email family and friends. We have downloadable books and magazines, and we love doing programs for all ages!

At 6 p.m. April 12, to kick off National Library Week, Greater Lehigh Valley Writers Group will present a free program of literary fun and adventure featuring several local authors. Join us for an evening of readings from original works, audience participation, games, prizes and fun for everyone. Authors will have a question-and-answer session, book signing and informal conversation at the close of the event.

April 12 is National Library Workers Day. Stop by and thank your library staff for all they do to make our library a community library.

To end National Library Week, we will be having a kite-making, family fun day from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 16. This year’s One Book Every Child selection is “Kite Day: A Bear and Mole Story.” Come to the library to learn how to make a kite. Clifford the Big Red Dog will be present, courtesy of Friends of the Library, as we make kites, read stories and more.

Weather permitting, we will meet outside at the picnic tables, but in the event of rain, we will move indoors, and you can take your kite for a test spin on a nicer day.

As one of our door prizes, Miller Symphony Hall will be donating a pack of four tickets to see the musical “Clifford the Big Red Dog - Live!” held 2 p.m. April 23.

Thanks to Whitehall Area Chamber of Commerce for promoting this event and to Miller Symphony Hall for helping to sponsor it.

A Civil War program titled “Damn Dutch!,” featuring historian John Moyer Jr. and the Singing Union Soldiers, will be held 6:30 p.m. April 26. This program on German Americans and the Civil War is designed to delight, educate and entertain. It will feature period music from Moyer, a 14-year veteran of Civil War living history and reenactments.
