PSSA testing starts April 12
The Pennsylvania System of School Assessment tests are upon us!
All students in grades three through eight at Salisbury Middle, Western Salisbury Elementary and Harry S Truman Elementary schools will start with the English and Language Arts section of the PSSAs April 12. Help your student and the schools by making sure your student has enough sleep each night and has a good breakfast. I know sometimes there is a fine line between the two, but encourage your children to do their best without stressing them out. No one wants an anxious child, but the testing does need to be taken seriously. Off soapbox.
Also April 12, lucky first graders at WSE who do not have PSSA testing get to have lunch with mom and dad. First grade lunch begins promptly 11:45 a.m.
The end of the third marking period is April 8 for Salisbury High School and SMS. Make sure your middle schooler has all their Reading Counts points for this marking period.
Salisbury Middle School is looking for donations to its MakerSpace. What is a MakerSpace, you ask? It is a place encouraging creativity in students by using hands-on activities. Organizers are looking for donations of popsicle sticks, paint brushes, duct tape, hammers, wire cutters and even a jigsaw. For a complete list of things needed, visit the SMS website. Donations can be dropped off in the school office.
An operations committee meeting will be held 7 p.m. April 4 at the school district administration building and a school board meeting will be held 7:30 p.m. April 13 also at the administration building.
The Devonshire drop-off center will be open April 2 and 5. The hours of operation are 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the first and third Tuesday and Saturday of the month.
Jerusalem Western Salisbury Church will host a community breakfast 8 to 11 a.m. April 9. A special spring-themed breakfast will be on the menu. A donation is suggested. All proceeds benefit the 275th anniversary celebration.
