Gladys R. Rutter
Gladys R. Rutter, 88, a resident at the Lutheran Community at Telford, formerly of Schnecksville and Succasunna, N.J., died March 22, 2016, in St. Luke’s Hospital, Quakertown.
She was the wife of the late William H. Rutter.
Born Nov. 6, 1927, in Wanamakers, Lynn Township, she was the daughter of the late Carl L. and Carrie I. (Kistler) Dietrich.
A 1949 graduate of Kutztown University and 1945 graduate of Kutztown High School, she was a first-grade teacher at Amanda Stout Elementary School, Reading, and in the Roxbury School District, Succasunna, for a combined 25 years before retiring in 1985.
A member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Perkasie, an associate member of Union Evangelical Lutheran Church, Schnecksville, she was a former member of Redeemer Lutheran Church Succasunna, where she served on the church council, served as education secretary for American Lutheran Church Women and taught Bible School.
She was a volunteer at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Lehigh Valley Food Bank and the Hawk Mountain Bird Sanctuary.
She cherished the time she spent with her children and grandchildren.
Her survivors include sons William C. and his wife, Phyllis, of Spencerport, N.Y., Thomas J. and his wife, Amy, of Perkasie; sister Lucille M. Rothermel of Lititz; grandchildren Andrew W. Rutter, Jocelyn E. Danieluk and her husband, Craig, Michael R. Rutter and his wife, Larissa, J. Tyler Rutter and his wife, Carolyn; and great-grandchildren Colton, Madison, Thomas, James, Avery and William.
She was predeceased by a sister, Alma G. Daws.
