Doris E. Gibson
Doris E. Gibson, 94, of Allentown died on March 12, 2016, in Phoebe Home, Allentown.
She and her late husband William A. Gibson Jr. celebrated 70 years of marriage in 2014.
Born in Toronto, Canada, she lived and attended school in Hanover, Ontario, Canada.
A member of Asbury United Methodist Church, South Whitehall, for more than 70 years, she sang with the choir for 40 years, was deeply involved in the Women’s Club, serving as program director and singing in the club’s chorus.
She was among the first lay pastoral visitors and was an active member of the Women’s Auxiliary for Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township.
For many years, she volunteered her time fundraising for the United Way and organizing the Allentown Symphony Ball, often handwriting hundreds of invitations for the event.
She enjoyed playing bridge and was involved with a number of different groups including one from her church.
Her survivors include a son Thomas D. Gibson; daughter Mariellen Gibson-Butler, wife of Kenneth Butler of Doylestown; and grandchildren Alex, Abigail and Michael Butler.
Her memorial service will be 11:30 a.m. April 2 in Asbury United Methodist Church, 1533 Springhouse Road, South Whitehall.
There will be a calling period in the parlor at Asbury 10:30-11:30 a.m. prior to the service.
