Coplay: Longtime borough resident turns 100
Louise Kropf, a longtime borough resident now residing at Sacred Heart Senior Living, Northampton, celebrated a major milestone March 20 - her 100th birthday.
Kropf’s son, Richard, brought her to her church, St. John’s Lutheran Church, Coplay, where she was celebrated at the Palm Sunday service. A social followed, where she received a large birthday card signed by congregation members and others and a special cake with refreshments.

St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, 4 S. Fifth St., will have its annual Blessing of the Food event noon March 26, at which families bring baskets of food to be blessed, a custom going back decades as Lent comes to a close and Easter Sunday is just hours away.

Coplay Recreation & Welfare Association will hold its annual community Easter egg hunt for children 1 p.m. March 26 on the grounds of St. Peter Roman Catholic Church. The egg hunt, a tradition that dates back to the 1950s, is for borough children up to 8 years old.
Roger Rabbit will be present to greet the boys and girls.
More than a thousand brightly colored plastic eggs have been filled with jelly beans. Each child will receive Peeps candy, and there will be prize eggs for the four age groups: 0-2; 3-4; 5-6; and 7-8.

St. John’s Lutheran Church, 18 S. Third St., will hold its annual congregation breakfast Easter Sunday, March 27, between services from 8:45 a.m. to 10 a.m.
Men of St. John’s will prepare and serve the breakfast.
Additionally, Coplay Garden Club will meet 7 p.m. March 31 at the church. The meeting, open to the public, will include speakers and other special programs.

Coplay Saengerbund will turn 100 years old in 2017. A committee is working on plans for a program to celebrate the club’s centennial.
Most likely, a group from Burgenland, Austria, will make the trip to join with the Saengerbund to recognize the historic occasion.

While on the topic of anniversaries, the committee to arrange the festivities for the borough’s 150th anniversary in 2019 is getting started and is looking for borough residents who want to serve on the committee.
One of the ideas receiving serious attention is a fireworks display during the celebration.
The town’s three churches also can be expected to have a role in the borough’s birthday program.
