Carlene Ann Bennicoff, 70, of Upper Macungie Township, died March 19, 2016, in her home.

She and her husband Ernest R. Bennicoff were married 52 years.

Born in Palmerton, she was the daughter of the late Lester and Merle (Handwerk) Scheffler and raised since a small child by the late Verna and Dale Handwerk.

Before retiring in 2005, she managed the Barnes and Noble bookstore at Penn State Lehigh Valley campus for many years.

In 1963, she graduated from the former Slatington High School and maintained close friendships by enjoying lunches with her former classmates.

She will be deeply missed by her neighbors and friends.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter Marianne and her husband, Jon Miller, of Emmaus; brother Kenneth of Slatington; and seven grandchildren. She was predeceased by a brother David.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. March 29 at Union Cemetery, Route 873, Slatington.
