George L. Allerton

George L. Allerton, 95, of Orefield, died March 10, 2016, in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township.

He was the husband of the late Viola S. (Laudenslager) Allerton.

Born Feb. 12, 1921, in White Plains, N.Y., he was the son of the late Moses A. and Rebecca (Stephens) Allerton.

A member of I.E.E.E., he was an electrical engineer at the former Western Electric, Allentown, for 35 years before retiring in 1980.

An inventive and entrepreneurial man, he received his 10th patent at age 93.

He was a devoted elder, deacon and trustee at The First Presbyterian Church of Allentown.

He loved spending time with his family, playing board games and enjoying the outdoors, especially at his cabin in Promised Land.

He will forever be remembered by his grandchildren for his wisdom and insights into life.

His survivors include children Linda A. Freedman and Robert of Bethlehem, Frederick C. Allerton and Suzanne of Bethlehem, Susan E. Allerton and Pete Rowland of Durango, Colo., Barbara C. Allerton and Gary Stauffer of Harrisburg; brothers Joseph Allerton of Fulton, N.Y., John S. Allerton and Lee of Seattle, Wash.; caregiver Susan Karugu; grandchildren Andrew, Michael and his wife, Brianne, Julie and Nathaniel.
