Althea M. Townsend, 91, of Orefield, died March 9, 2016, in Whitehall Manor.

She was the wife of the late Robert R. Townsend.

Born May 11, 1924, in Allentown, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence C. and Anna A. (Miller) Holben.

She was a secretary at the Townsend Insurance Agency from 1956-70.

A member of Jordan United Church of Christ, South Whitehall, she was a Sunday School teacher from 1951-90, organized and directed the Children’s Choir, and was member of the Lay Fellowship.

She was a Red Cross volunteer at the former Allentown Osteopathic Hospital for 11 years.

Her survivors include a brother Richard M. Holben and his wife, Jeanette, of Allentown; daughter-in-law Linda J. Townsend of Orefield; grandson Jeffrey R. Townsend and his wife, Johanna, of Orefield; granddaughter Heather S. Nagle and her husband, Todd, of Orefield; and great-grandchildren Kylie, Leah, Jonathan and Carson.

She was predeceased by her son, Robert G. Townsend and a brother, Donald R. Holben.
