Matthew John Stitzer, microbiologist

Matthew John Stitzer, 58, of Allentown, died January 21, 2016. Born in Mahanoy City, he was a son of the late H. Peter and Lois “Kizzy” (Hinkle) Stitzer.

He was a 1975 graduate of Mahanoy Area High School. He earned an associate’s degree from Lehigh Carbon Community College and attended Kutztown University from 1985 to 1987.

He was currently a microbiologist for Kraft Foods. He worked for the Yogurt Factory, Lehigh Valley Mall; worked part time at the Bayleaf Restaurant and was a bartender at the Stonewall Bar, both in Allentown.

He was a volunteer tour guide for Historic Bethlehem. He was a youth group coordinator and was on the festival functions committee for Mayfair, Allentown, for several years. He was an actor in community theater with the Pennsylvania Playhouse, Bethlehem, and the Theater Outlet and Civic Theater, both in Allentown. He was a founding member of Fighting AIDS Continuously Together and was on the board for over 15 years.

He is survived by his twin brother, Mark Stitzer of Allentown; a sister, Susan and her husband George Ball of Mahanoy City; a nephew, Joshua and his wife Allison Ball;t hree nieces, Vikki Buffington and her husband Craig, Amanda Stitzer Sheppton and Noelle Stitzer; and five great- nieces and great-nephews.
