David O. Hendricks
David Oris Hendricks, 81, of Zionsville, died March 1, 2016, at Mosser Nursing Home. He was the husband of Sally Ann (Bruder) Hendricks. They would have celebrated 57 years of marriage Aug. 15, 2016. Born in Allentown, he was a son of the late Mary (Brenchberger) and Horace B. Hendricks.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps.
He was the proprietor of Hendricks and Sons Auto Service in Emmaus. After 30 years in the industry, he retired in 2000 turning the reigns over to his two sons.
His life passion was horses. He raised, bred, trained and showed American Quarter Horses and was a life member of the American Quarter Horse Association.
He was a partner in the HP Cattle Company with William Pearsall where they raised Black Angus and Hereford beef cattle.
He was a life member of the NRA and a member of the Rural Sportsman Association and various rod and gun clubs throughout the Lehigh Valley. He also enjoyed shooting skeet at the Rural Sportsman Association where he was a board member. He was a regular shooter in the Lehigh Valley and Suburban Trap leagues.
His one-of-a-kind machine gun laugh will be missed by many, but his stories will continue to be told and enjoyed by others.
He is survived by his wife; daughters, Robin L. and her husband Kevin Balliet, Kelly K. and her husband William Pearsall; sons, Hunter and his wife Ruth Ann, Daniel D., all of Emmaus; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by siblings, Horace, Wilson, Paul, Elsie, Warren and Martha.
Services are private at the convenience of the family. Arrangements were made by the David J. Boyko Funeral Home, Macungie.
