Michael Joseph Stern Jr., 86, of Auburn, and formerly of Bethlehem, died Feb. 25, 2016. Born in Bethlehem, he was a son of the late Magdelena (Margaret Narlesky) Stern and Michael Joseph Stern Sr. He was the husband of Constance “Connie” (Farnham) Stern for 34 years.
He was a 1947 Bethlehem Catholic HS graduate.
He was as a jet engine mechanic in the Army Air Corps during World War II and was one of the first to work on the F-80 Shooting Star.
He attended Moravian College.
He was a pyrotechnic analyst at Bethlehem Steel Corp. He was a clerk and a quality control specialist for 27 years with the U.S. Postal Service at the Bethlehem post office and at the Postal Road facility until he retired in 1989.
He played in a weekly postal pinochle club.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Michael III and his wife Judith Seidenberger; a daughter, Carol Ann and her husband Joseph Tomko; a stepson, Christopher Odenwelder; a grandson, Bryan Stern; two granddaughters, Amanda Stern and Isabel Odenwelder; and his first wife, Anna Mae Shimko.
He was predeceased by a brother, Robert Stern.
Arrangements were made by Connell Funeral Home Inc., Bethlehem.
