John Gorcsan Jr., assistant superintendent

John Gorcsan Jr., 95, of Bethlehem, died Feb. 16, 2016, at UPMC Passavant Hospital, Pittsburgh. Born in Bethlehem, he was a son of the late John Gorcsan Sr. and Vilma (Hassai) Gorcsan. He was the husband of Lucy Rose (Carchio) Gorcsan for 62 years.

He earned a bachelor of science in mechanical engineering from Lehigh University.

He was in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He worked at Bethlehem Steel for 42 years, where he was an assistant superintendent of electrical-mechanical maintenance, and was a supervisor with the Saucon Rolling Mills division and Structural Steel shipping yards.

He was a 20 year councilman and a one term president of St. John’s Windish Lutheran Church.

He was a committeeman and treasurer of the Boy Scouts of America, Troop 39, for 15 years.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, John III M.D. and his wife Marianne; a daughter, Mary Lou and her husband Barry Raiser; five grandchildren, Daniel and his wife Christy Raiser, David Raiser and Marcy and her husband Philip Nase, and Sarah and Emily Gorcsan; and three great-grandchildren, Jack, Luke and Samantha Raiser.
