Avis Mary Godbout, 88, of Bethlehem Township, died Feb. 20, 2016, at Country Meadows, Bethlehem Township. She was the daughter of the late Elsie M. Murphy. She was the wife of the late Charles Godbout for 63 years.

She was a 1944 graduate of Mary Louis Academy, Queens, New York, and a 1948 graduate of Colby College.

She worked for the New York Times and was a religious educator at St. Mary’s, Skaneateles.

She was an active member of St. Peter’s Church, New Hampshire.

She was a literacy volunteer in Upstate, N.Y.

She is survived by a daughter, Mary Avis and her husband Charles Thompson of Saco, Maine; three sons, Blake J. and his wife Paula of Winchester, Mass., Dr. Brett P. and his wife Maryanne of Bethlehem and Scott M. and his wife Kay of Norfolk, Virginia.; and eight grandchildren, Christine, Scott, Phillip, Kyle, Erin, Jennifer, Indiana and Asher.
