Play ‘Bucks, Bags and Luck Bingo’ March 6

The Emmaus Historical Society will partner with the Emmaus Main Street Partners to host a “Bucks, Bags and Luck Bingo,” 2 to 5 p.m. March 6 at St. John’s Lutheran Church parish hall, 501 Chestnut St. The doors open 1 p.m.; games begin 2 p.m. Space is limited. Advanced tickets can be purchased at the Emmaus Jewel Shop, 338 Main St. or David’s Electric, 314 Main St. For information, visit emmausmainstreet.com.

The Emmaus Senior Citizens group meets 1 p.m. Fridays at St. Matthew’s Evangelical Congregational Church, Ridge and Fifth streets. The March programs are March 4: Glen Pritchard, musician; March 11: a film; March 18 is game day and the club does not meet March 25 in honor of the Easter holiday. A highlight for March at the Emmaus Public Library, 11 E. Main St., will be a meet the author and book launch event held in conjunction with Let’s Play Books!, 5 p.m. March 5. Author David Lubar will be at the library to talk about his upcoming novel, “Character, Driven.” The event is free. Note: The library will be closed during the event. The library will celebrate Dr. Seuss’s March 2 birthday with storytimes 10:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. and block parties 11 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Come out and celebrate the library’s favorite author and hear some of his favorite stories.

The winter book discussion group continues 7 p.m. March 15. The adult coloring club is held 7 p.m. every Monday. The adult movie matinee is scheduled 1 p.m. March 24.

Stephanie Gardner, a Lehigh Valley native and New York City-based filmmaker, playwright and theater director, will continue to lead the Winter Film Discussion Series with a discussion of “My Beautiful Launderette” (1985) starring Daniel Day Lewis. The program will be held 7 to 9 p.m. March 31.

Zumba classes are held 9 a.m. Saturdays at Faith Presbyterian Church, Second and Cherokee streets.

St. Ann’s Knights of Columbus will hold a Lenten seafood dinner 5 to 7 p.m. March 11 at St. Ann School cafeteria, 435 S. Sixth St. The meal includes a choice of fried cod, fried shrimp or baked haddock or fried combo, fries, clam chowder, coleslaw, drinks and an assortment of homemade desserts. The children’s meal is fish or mac-n-cheese, fries and applesauce. There is a cost. Children five and under eat free. Take out is available. Proceeds support Knights of Columbus’ charitable causes. Emmaus Borough Council meets 7 p.m. in council chambers, 28 S. Fourth St., March 7 and 21. Borough offices will be closed March 25 for the Easter holiday.

The compost center on Klines Lane will open March 9. Hours are 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays. The E-Waste site will also open in March. How many of you remember Hess’s Allentown store? Kathy Long, a third generation Hess’s shopper, will present the Emmaus Historical Society’s March program, “Back in Time-- Hess Brothers” 7 p.m. March 17 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 501 Chestnut St. Long has photos and displays to share that will bring back memories.

With Easter just around the corner--it is time for Easter egg hunts in Emmaus.

The Emmaus Fire Department will partner with Lehigh Valley Martial Arts Studio to hold a new-this-year Easter egg hunt 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 19 at Emmaus Community Park. The hunt will be open for ages two to 11. The event will also feature golden eggs which if found will hold a certificate for a free martial arts class. The fire department will hand out fire safety coloring books and have a display of fire apparatus. Pluggy, the public education spark plug, will be on site. Also on display will be the Emmaus Ambulance Corps equipment, the Emmaus Police Department equipment and the Lehigh Valley helicopter MedStar. For information, call 610-967-5630.

The Kiwanis Club of Emmaus will host its 64th annual Easter egg hunt 1 p.m. March 26 at Emmaus Community Park, 12th and Broad streets. The hunt includes five age groups-toddlers through age 10. The Easter Bunny will be on hand. Hunts start promptly so plan to be there a little early.

The GFWC PA Woman’s Club of Emmaus’ March meeting will be held 7 p.m. March 28 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 501 Chestnut St. Linda Michelson will present a program on Scandinavian dolls. The new officers for the Emmaus Garden Club for 2016 are Rosemary Gish Ebersole, president; Becky Short, first vice president; Fay Schuler, second vice president; Michele Iobst, secretary; Mary Ware, treasurer and Millie Flexer, corresponding secretary. The club meets noon the first Tuesday of the month at Faith Presbyterian Church, 3002 N. Second St.
